What this website collects, why we collect it, and what happens to it afterwards. In plain English, because it’s the only version we’ve got.

McGrath Mechanical, LLC is a one-person heating and cooling company based in Stockbridge, Georgia. This page explains exactly what this website does with your information. It is deliberately short and deliberately specific — if something isn’t written here, we’re not doing it.

What you give us

The request form on this site asks for:

  • Your name.
  • Your phone number.
  • Your email address — optional. The form works without it.
  • Which service you’re calling about — optional.
  • A description of the problem — optional.
  • Whether it’s urgent — a checkbox.

We use those to get back to you about your request. The phone number is the one we really need, because a phone call is how this business works.

What we record when you send the form

At the moment you submit a request, our server also records:

  • the IP address the request came from;
  • your browser’s user-agent string (what browser and device you’re on);
  • the page you submitted from;
  • the advertising information described further down.

That is ordinary web-server information. We keep it because it’s how we tell a real service request from an automated one, and how we know which advert brought you here.

This site is hosted by Vercel. Your submission passes through Vercel’s servers and is written to Vercel’s logs, which we can read. Vercel is our host, not our customer — they process it for us and for no one else.

Cookies and browser storage

Two things store data in your browser. Here is all of it.

mm_attr — our own cookie

If you arrive here from a Google advert, this site writes the advert’s details into a first-party cookie called mm_attr, and mirrors it into your browser’s local storage as mm_attr and mm_attr_first. It holds:

  • Google’s click identifier — gclid, wbraid or gbraid;
  • the campaign, ad group, keyword and similar parameters attached to the link you clicked;
  • the page you landed on, the site you came from, and a timestamp.

It does not contain your name, your phone number, your email address or anything you typed. It lasts up to 90 days, and it’s refreshed for another 90 if you send us a request. You can delete it any time by clearing this site’s cookies and site data in your browser.

Google’s tags

This site is built to run Google Tag Manager and Google Ads tags so we can measure which adverts actually produce work. When those tags are active they set their own cookies in your browser for that purpose. What Google does with what its own tags collect is covered by Google’s privacy policy, not by this one.

Why there’s no cookie banner

Cookie-consent banners exist because of European law. This company advertises to and works for customers in metro Atlanta and along the I-75 corridor in Georgia, so a banner here would do nothing but get in the way of someone whose air conditioning has just quit. If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, this site turns advertising and analytics storage off by default for you before any tag loads. For everyone else it is on by default, and this paragraph is us telling you so.

Advertising, and what Google gets

We advertise on Google, and we measure it — otherwise we’d be guessing about which adverts are worth paying for. Two things happen for that.

The click identifier

When you submit a request, the Google click identifier sitting in mm_attr is recorded alongside it. That tells us which advert you came from. It is Google’s own identifier going back to Google — it doesn’t tell them anything about you they didn’t already know.

Hashed contact details (“Enhanced Conversions”)

We may send your phone number and email address to Google in hashed form. Hashing here means SHA-256: a one-way function that turns your phone number into a fixed string of characters, which cannot be turned back into your phone number. Google compares that string against the equivalent strings for its own signed-in users, and can then tell us “the person who requested service is the person who clicked that advert” — without either side handing the other a readable phone number. Google calls this Enhanced Conversions.

Your phone number and email address are not sent to Google in readable form for this purpose. If you would rather we didn’t do this at all, leave the email field blank — it’s optional — or call and tell us, and we’ll take your details out.

What we don’t do

We do not sell your personal information. We don’t rent it, trade it, or hand it to anybody to use for their own marketing. The only places your information goes outside this company are the two named above:

  • Vercel, because they host the site your request arrives at;
  • Google, for the advertising measurement described above.

Both of those are companies we pay to do a job for us. Neither is a sale.

How long we keep it

Your service request: for as long as there’s a reason to keep it — a job we’re booked to do, a job we’ve done and may need the history of, or a customer we expect to hear from again. We’re not going to print a retention schedule we don’t actually run. If you want yours gone, ask and it’s gone.

Server logs: kept by our host on their schedule, not ours.

The mm_attr cookie: up to 90 days in your browser, and you can clear it yourself at any time.

Your choices

Call (404) 423-9371 and ask us to:

  • tell you what we hold about you;
  • correct it; or
  • delete it.

There’s no web form for this and no email address to write to, because this company doesn’t publish one — the phone is how it works, and it reaches a person who can actually do it. We’ll do it because it’s a reasonable thing to ask, not because a statute is making us.

Separately from us, you can clear or block cookies in your browser’s settings, and you can control how Google personalises adverts to you at Google’s My Ad Center.

Children

This site is not aimed at children and we don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you think we have, call and we’ll delete it.

Which laws apply

As of the date at the top of this page, Georgia has no comprehensive consumer privacy statute in force. There is no Georgia equivalent of California’s CCPA or Europe’s GDPR that governs a Georgia HVAC contractor serving Henry County and the I-75 corridor, and this policy does not pretend otherwise.

So you won’t find a “Do Not Sell My Personal Information” link on this site, or a table of statutory rights you don’t have here. Copying that in from somewhere else would be decoration, not compliance, and it would tell you something untrue about what we’re bound by. What you get instead is the plain description above and a phone number that reaches someone who will act on it. If the law changes, this page changes.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or what we do with it, we’ll change this page and move the date at the top. There’s no mailing list to notify, so the date is the notice.
